In memory of Nina Brekelmans, the Georgetown Running Club, in partnership with the Georgetown Center for Contemporary Arab Studies, hosted the Nina Brekelmans Memorial Scholarship 5K on March 19, 2016. Thanks to generous support from the Cooper Standard Foundation, all of the nearly $10,000 raised through the race was donated towards the Nina Brekelmans Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund at Georgetown University, preserving Nina's legacy of goodwill and women's empowerment in the Middle East.

With contributions from the race, the endowment fundraising goal was fully meT in March 2016

Course Information

The 5K course provided an opportunity to tour many highlights of the Georgetown University campus in addition to a stretch of the Chesapeake & Ohio (C&O) canal path often frequented by Nina during her time at Georgetown.

The race started and finished on iconic Copley Lawn. The course took runners across campus towards Canal Road, where they followed the sidewalk before looping through a tunnel onto the C&O canal path. The race headed out and back along the path then returning through the tunnel along Canal Road and back to campus. Runners circled Cooper Field and then navigated up a series of hills towards the start/finish line.
